Barrie City Council Dodges Vote on Safe Consumption Site

It is safe to say that six of Barrie's City Councillors dropped the ball at the most recent meeting held at City Hall on Monday, June 24th, 2019, and we caught their shame on camera. One of our followers asked us to post the vote details and we are going one step further with this video that clarifies the absolute insanity of the cowardly decision made by those elected council members in whom we have put our trust.

Thank you to Mayor Jeff Lehman and also to Councillors Keenan Aylwin, Natalie Harris and Clare Riepma - Barrie Ward 1 for putting the needs of our community ahead of your own political aspirations. You all stood your ground and tried to lead the other civic ‘leaders’ to a positive resolution that would help to save lives in our city. Please note, Jim Harris Councillor Ward 8 abstained from voting due to a conflict of interest.

We are not sure what to think about Deputy Mayor Barry Ward for Barrie Ward 4, who presented the original motion to Council to move forward with the 90 Mulcaster address, but who then voted in support of the amendment that essentially killed his own stated desires. We will be asking about it when we interview him soon. We should add that Councillor Ward immediately accepted our offer to speak on camera, the time of which will be arranged very soon.

Council had an obligation to move forward on the creation of a Safe Consumption Site, but instead of agreeing to or denouncing the proposed location, they dodged the hard issue by deferring the decision to a mystery 'investigator' nobody could identify, who has a skillset and qualifications nobody can verify, and who cannot be retained in time according to Barrie procurement regulations.
