COVID-19 - Barrie Defeat Depression Annual Walk Go, 2020
Summer is traditionally the biggest time of the year for local charities and community groups as they take advantage of the good weather to entice local residents to take part in fundraisers and awareness campaigns. Sadly, that is no longer possible, or at least for now, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So, instead of throwing in the towel, many groups, such as Barrie Defeat Depression have become innovative. Normally the Defeat Depression Day event, scheduled for May 30th of this year, is held in a large group in a public park; however, this year it is going virtual. Participants can still take part and help defeat depression, but they will now do so on the street on which they live, in their own backyard, or anywhere that they can honour social distancing and other new regulations intended to slow or stop the spread of the Coronavirus. On May 21st, 2020, our the OCANetwork, also known as Five Points Media, Producer, John Ironside, met with top fundraiser Vanessa Quesnel on the waterfront to learn all the details.
