Justice for Black Lives - Barrie Rally, 2020
On June 4th, 2020, at least a thousand people of all ethnicities and walks of life came together at Barrie City Hall before marching to Meridian Place with a simple message: 'Black Lives Matter'. The march, entitled Justice for Black Lives - Barrie was organized and promoted by local residents for the community as part of a wave of similar protests in cities and towns across the United States and Canada. The protests were sparked by the murder of a Black man, George Floyd, by White police officers in Minneapolis, Minnesota. However, the issue of black men and women being murdered by white racist police officers has been an issue for countless decades.
