'Dining in the Dark' is a dining experience you'll never forget
It was our pleasure on Friday, April 28th to work with organizers Diane and Michelle Woolfrey of the Barrie Visions Gala team to record this promotional video featuring chef Nicole Meehan preparing a salad, boiling vegetables, and defrosting and broiling a chicken breast.
And all while blindfolded
Upwards of one million Canadians are currently living with blindness or partial sight. Dining in the Dark is a fund-raiser organized by the Barrie Visions Gala team in support of the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides program. A Dog Guide costs approximately $25,000 to raise and train but none of that cost is passed on to qualifying applicants. Lions Foundation of Canada operates two facilities in Ontario: its head office and training centre in Oakville, and a breeding and training facility in Breslau. Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides does not receive government funding, and relies on support from service clubs, corporations, foundations and individuals from across the country in order to meet its mission.
Like cooking, when given the right support, people who are blind can live a fulfilling and fully independent life.
Participants will be served a gourmet three course meal with appetizers and delectable desserts served in the dark. There will also be a silent auction, wine and whiskey tasting, and fabulous door prizes. Limited tickets remain available for this once in a lifetime event, being held on Friday, May 12, 2017 at the Monte Carlo Inn and Suites at 81 Hart St. in Barrie. Cocktails will be served at 6:30pm and dinner at 7:30pm. The cost of tickets is $60.00.
