In 2021, residents of Innisfil called on Town Council to generate a budget that would allow for a zero percent increase in the tax roll. In order to achieve that goal, Innisfil had to make deeper cuts to counterbalance the portions that came from the County of Simcoe and other sources. That meant Operations had to make difficult choices, which resulted in the cancellation of many street beatification services.

In response, a group of citizens came together to clean the streets of overgrown and dying shrubs, grass, and other unattractive plant life and debris. The group is called Clean Up Innisfil, and they meet every second Saturday to clean up different areas of Innisfil. When we caught up with them, the group was pruning the plants and cleaning the sidewalks of the Innisfil Beach Road business section of Alcona.

Council has since given direction to the town to find alternative income sources to rectify the issue. However, for now, the volunteers of Clean Up Innisfil continue in their work of bringing the people of their town together by generating pride in their shared community.
