International Women's Day, Barrie 2017
The annual International Women's Day event in Barrie drew about 200 supportive women and men
International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on March 8, at which time women and men come together to celebrate the power, the spirit, and the many accomplishments of women and girls around the world.
In 2017 the festive meeting was led by the Women and Children’s Shelter of Barrie
Our production crew has a long history of working to assist the Women and Children’s Shelter of Barrie and as such we were more than happy to record the event for them. This encapsulating video features many of the highlights.
The 80 km/h winds made for some interesting challenges
The event, hosted by comedian and activist Andrea Murray, drew commentary from various local dignitaries, including Teresa MacLennan, the Executive Director of the Women and Children's Shelter of Barrie, Chief Kimberley Greenwood of the Barrie Police Services, and Mayor Jeff Lehman of the City of Barrie. Federal MPs Alex Nuttall and John Brassard were represented by members of their staff as was Barrie MPP Ann Hoggarth.
