Rose Romita's 2018 Community Thanksgiving Dinner
For most people, Thanksgiving is a time for family. However, not everybody has family nearby, or still in their lives. So, for about 23 years, Rose Romita, aka City Councillor Rose Romita Ward 2, has held a come one come all Thanksgiving dinner where everybody is welcome to grab a plate and enjoy a great holiday meal with friends and strangers alike.
The meal is free to all, and all the fixings are donated by local businesses and residents. Rose estimated this year she and her volunteers would serve about 350 people, and make about 800 meals.
Some of those who came were enduring very tough times, while others simply did not want to be alone on the holidays. Families sat with seniors, who broke bread with the homeless.
Karaoke was to follow the meal, but our crew could not stick around for what we are sure was a fun time for all. Kudos to Rose and all of her volunteers for providing a delicious meal and a place to go for the holiday for those who are all too easily forgotten.
